Inspired by Juneteenth. When slaves were fleeing captivity, it was a luxury to have watermelon. They needed it to stay full and hydrated while traveling. Mothers would hide them and provide to their children on their journey to freedom. Here we embrace the unspoken joy of a little boys freedom in the cotton fields. May we honor the children who carried legacies heavier than their years, and may we never forget where we come from.
